RE: Can't push up my expandable end by myself

Sometimes it is hard for me to have the leverage to close the bed end up by myself (I am 5'5"). It depends on the trailer and ground slope around it. If I am having trouble, it helps to use a small ladder or step to get up high enough to use my meager muscles and leverage to close the ends up.

RE: New Hybrid Owner-So excited!!!

You will be glad you took the plunge. We love our hybrid and camping is sooooo much easier in it. I even go without my husband all the time. My 7-months pregnant daughter, 3 and 2 year old grandchildren and I just got back from two weeks at Garner State Park. Of course, our husbands came "to visit", but we drove, set-up and took-down all by ourselves.
You will love your camping experience even more in your hybrid. (I remember camping with 4 young children in a pup with all the ice chests and tubs of clothes. It really did get old after about 4 days!)

RE: Dule cam anti sway

Mine were noisy before I started using a very small amount of vaseline on them. They are much better now.
The dual cam system makes the trailer much, much easier to tow.

RE: Hello everyone.....getting ready....

Good luck on your camping trip. I know it will be wonderful. Thanks to your husband and all your family for their service.
I just got home from a 2 week camping trip with my middle son, my daughter and 2 grandchildren. My youngest son, who was in Iraq, called me while we were camping. He told me he was scheduled to come home sometime in late June after a year in Baghdad. Well, I got home on Saturday and pulled into the driveway. My husband met me outside and helped to start unload stuff. I walked into my house and there sat my youngest son in the recliner. I screamed so much I scared the heck out of my little grandaughter. I hugged and hugged him, not quite believing he was real. (It seems that he was able to get home earlier than he thought. He didn't want me coming home early from camping plus, he wanted to spend some "alone time" with his new wife. Anyway, he arranged for my other son who was camping with me to keep him posted on my arrival at home so he could be there and surprise me. It was WONDERFUL! Best surprise of my life~)

RE: Fridge ?

I usually run the fridge on electric for a day or two before a trip while I load the trailer. I drive with it on auto filled with all the cold food I need for my trip. I bought the trailer so I could forgo the days of living out of ice chests. I do keep a small ice chest in the car with drinks for us and the grandkids.
When I get gas the trailer (hence the fridge) is fairly far from the pump and I think there is no real danger. I think if I ever heard or saw a real problem I might turn the thing off, but until then it stays on.

RE: need to know more about solar blankets and Wheel Stop Chock

I just spent 2 weeks camping in the mid to upper 90's. One tent end was in the shade and one in the sun. Before I put up the space blankets on the end in the sun, it was about 20 degrees warmer than the one in the shade. It would have been uncomfortable for a daytime nap. After the space blanket was put on, it was a major difference. I use binder clips to hold it on. Easy on, easy off.
I do think I might add some velcro, since for now I just clip the sides and bottom.
Also, the space blankets keep debris off the tent end. One of my tent ends got badly stained before I started using the covers. (I think it was under a tree with leaf cutter ants and the leaves and ants made a stain that I have not been able to remove).

RE: coyote KZ comments?

I have had mine since 2005. I love it! It tows very well with the set-up I have (weight distribution plus dual cam sway control). Several minor items were fixed under warranty. The tent ends had to be replace and have not had a problem since then with leaking. I have made lots of mods, but I suspect I would do that with any trailer (they just don't put in enough shelves, hooks, etc.) Besides, making the trailer "your own" is half the fun!

Mine came with the little white ones. They sure make life easier when going in and out of the storage areas.

RE: What do you do with that goofy little shelf?

I am in the process of building and staining doors that I'm going to install on mine. The doors will keep the stuff from falling while traveling plus, I don't like to look at all the junk on the shelves. (I really like things neat and tidy, even while camping! It is the only way I could survive when my 4 kids were young.)

RE: What's on your "Mods-to-do list"???

I love thinking of things to "improve" and make my trailer mine!
Last year I had added...........
stove cover
new kitchen faucet
shelf above the tv cabinet
countertop extension
curtain to make a dressing area by the bathroom
shelves in the wardrobe
shelves next to the bath vanity mirror
towel hooks
protective surround for the water pump
supports for the plywood bench seats
table support for when it is lowered to the bed position
homemade wheel chocks
wasp-proof heat vent cover
border in bathroom (for fun)
hat hooks
This winter I added........
a koozie shelf by the door (we are forever losing koozies),
a spice rack,
a mirror outside the bathroom,
plexiglass screen door covers (to make it like a storm door, you can see through it but the heat or air-conditioning stays in the trailer)
a power jack,
portable outside shower made from pvc pipe,
plus, I lowered the arms on my jack-knife sofa so that when it is made into a bed the length of the person is not confined by the sofa arms (it is much more comfortable since you can actually stretch out)
I will try to get pictures soon to add to the ones I already have on webshots.

RE: stove cover for roo 233

I also made a cover out of cutting board (which in my opinion is better than the metal ones because it is sturdier and you can cut on it). I hinged mine to the back of the stove so when I cook I can flip it up and it becomes a backsplash to keep the area behind the stove clean.

RE: Whats in a name??

Mine's easy........
4 kids all graduated from Texas A&M (2 with Masters degrees)
3 of them in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band & Corps of Cadets
2 have served in Iraq
Then, as if we weren't Aggie enough, the 4 kids all married Texas Aggies.
Hence, 4AggiesMom (& Mother-in-law)

RE: folding bunks neatly

I leave a fitted sheet on my mattresses. They fold in half and sort of rest on a ledge at the inside of the bed area. They are held in place by bungees. When I let the beds down the mattresses are flipped into place with their sheets on. My mattresses do not snap into the bed platform. I think that makes it easier to fold the bunks up since there is not so much in the way.

RE: Hybrid Camper- Hot in the summertime?

We camp all during the hot Texas summer just fine. If we are in a shady site I don't bother with the silver "space blankets". But if we are in direct sunlight, the space blankets will keep the tent ends about 10 to 15 degrees cooler (much nicer for a midday nap!).
Otherwise, the main part of the trailer feels just great all the time.

Mine doesn't leak.......my sister's 5th wheel has leaked. Every rv bouncing down the road will eventually develop leaks if they are not maintained.

RE: Help with Bunk End latches

I'd like to know too. I think I must have had one of the last KZ products with the old style screw latches. I would like to change them out if it doesn't cost too much.

RE: comforters/pillows, etc...

I put a fitted sheet on each of the queen beds when we arrive at our destination. They stay on for the duration of our trip (even when traveling from night to night) Then I have blankets and pillows which I store in the clean and dry bathtub.
If we are staying in one place, the beds stay made the entire time. If we are moving everyday, the sheets stay on the mattresses and the blankets and pillows go in the tub.

RE: What's on your "Mods-to-do list"???

I have made a freestanding outside shower out of pvc pipe and connectors. I can take it apart when not in use and store it in a bag I made out of some material I had from another project. I use 2 shower curtains clipped together to go around the whole thing. It is large enough for adults to take a "swimsuit" shower and bathe a couple of kids at the same time.

RE: hello everyone!!

I want to say thanks for your husband's service. I know how you feel because my middle son spent the entire year of 2005 in Iraq, and my youngest son is there now and due to come home in June. The youngest son is planning a giant "guy camping trip" after he returns home.
As far as camping in Texas........
We spend every spring break and several weeks in the summer at Garner State park. There are lots of private campgrounds around the Frio River, also. The thing we like about that area is the crystal clear river and the many hills we can hike with the kids.
We have also camped at Canyon Lake in some of the corps of engineers parks. There are many fine private and public campgrounds and you can find lots of information on the internet.
Good luck to your family and we pray for the safe return of your hubby!
